Xfinity Mobile Login: 9 Things to Know Before You Sign Up in 2022

Switching to Xfinity Mobile from Comcast, a budget wireless operator that runs on Verizon’s 5G network, significantly reduced my monthly cell phone price.

I switched to Xfinity Mobile a few months after its stealthy 2017 debut, and my monthly wireless costs have averaged $15.
For the first 12 months of service, which included all taxes and fees, I paid only $180.11.

Xfinity Mobile Review: Cheap Cell Phone Plans on Verizon’s 5G Network

If you’re considering about switching to Xfinity Mobile, I’ll cover all the bases here.

To begin, I’ll address some of the most often asked questions I’ve had since releasing my Xfinity Mobile review and accompanying YouTube video.

1. Eligibility Requirement

Unlike other MVNOs, Xfinity Internet subscribers are the only ones eligible to sign up for Xfinity Mobile.

Look here for the most recent Xfinity Internet promotions.

I can see why you might not want to sign up for this service if you’ve had a lot of trouble with Comcast cable or internet in the past. To put it simply, I was game to try it.

Can’t get Comcast where you live? We regret to inform you that you do not qualify for this mobile promotion. As an alternative, you may use a tool called Visible.

You can keep using Xfinity Mobile even if you terminate your home internet service with Xfinity for any reason, including a move. However, a $25 monthly cost will be imposed for each line. Discover More Here!

To be clear, if you continue to use your Xfinity Internet service, you will not be charged that cost. Only if you decide to cancel that service and keep Xfinity Mobile will you be charged this fee.

2. Plans and Pricing

Pricing for a single line of Verizon’s postpaid unlimited data package ranges from $70 to $90 per month. While Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon’s network infrastructure, it charges about half as much and does not include any extras, such as a free Disney+ trial.

With Xfinity Mobile, you can talk and text all you want, wherever you are in the country, and you won’t have to pay any extra to do it.

In April 2021, Xfinity Mobile introduced a new multi-line discount for its Unlimited plan.

  • Unlimited: $45/month for one line, $80/month for two lines, $100/month for three lines and $120/month for four lines (reduced speeds after 20GB)
  • By the Gig: 1GB =$15/mo, 3GB = $30/month and 10GB = $60/month; pay $15 per GB if you exceed your chosen amount; no rollover data
UnlimitedBy the Gig (Shared Data)
$45 for 1 line$15 for 1GB
$80 for 2 lines$30 for 3GB
$100 for 3 lines$60 for 10GB
$120 for 4 lines$15 per additional GB

While each line requires its own Unlimited plan, the data included in the By the Gig plan can be used by a single line or shared among all lines on an account.

All plans have additional costs such as taxes and fees.

Xfinity Mobile is not a prepaid service, but rather a postpaid one. Your bill will be due once your billing cycle has concluded.

3. Flexible Data Plans: Unlimited vs. By the Gig

The following are some of my favorite features of Xfinity Mobile: If you don’t utilize all of your allotted monthly data, your plan may charge you more. However, with Xfinity Mobile, you can choose to pay by the gigabyte instead.

The 1 GB package, for instance, is available for $15 monthly. The second gigabyte of data can be added for $15.

However, if you find that the $30 for 3GB or $60 for 10GB plan is a better bargain as your data needs grow, then you can easily switch. Plan modifications in the middle of a billing cycle are possible.

Of course, many people would rather not fret over their monthly data use. It’s possible that they’d choose the unlimited data plan.

You should try the By the Gig plan first and see how it goes. If you find that you are beyond your data limit, you can always upgrade to the Unlimited plan. Changing plans is free of charge at any time.

4. Xfinity Mobile Data Speeds

New Xfinity Mobile users with a 5G-compatible device will be given priority data on either plan.

However, after 20GB of data is used on any line, speeds will be lowered, according to the provider. (At the time of this writing, using C-Band spectrum or Ultra Wideband data does NOT count toward the 20GB limit.)

In May of 2020, Xfinity Mobile launched a 5G service, which is a great perk if you reside in an area where it is available. The rollout of 5G networks is accelerating. To stay up-to-date on where and when 5G is available, see Verizon’s coverage map.

I used Xfinity Mobile and Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network in Miami Beach, Florida, throughout the month of December 2020.

Using the Speedtest app, I was able to measure download rates of above 3 Gbps (gigabits per second), or 3, 000 Mbps (megabits per second).

Nonetheless, in parts of Miami Beach without access to 5G Ultra Wideband, 5G speeds were closer to 80 Mbps.
In general, the Xfinity Mobile 5G test results were quicker than the 4G LTE network speeds I recorded from 2017 to 2019.

Typically, 4G LTE download rates ranged from 40 to 70 Mbps.

5. Mobile Hotspot

Xfinity Mobile customers can use their phones as a mobile hotspot without paying anything extra. To access the internet, you can do so by connecting your mobile device to the internet via its data connection.

When I wanted to use my laptop on the road without access to Wi-Fi, for instance, I was able to put this capability to the test.

According to Xfinity Mobile, if you have a 5G-compatible device, you can choose between the Unlimited and the By the Gig plans and enjoy priority data. The use of mobile hotspots also qualifies for priority data.

The Xfinity Mobile website states that the By the Gig plan is required for 4G LTE on hotspot-powered devices for customers with 4G phones. Even with an Unlimited package, speeds are capped at a maximum of 600 Kbps.

  • By the Gig plan: 4G LTE mobile hotspot speeds
  • Unlimited plan: 600 Kbps mobile hotspot speeds

Unlimited users can still check their email and surf the web, but they may have buffering issues while streaming video or music. The By the Gig plan does not have any data transfer limits.

Just keep in mind that if you have a 5G-compatible device, you won’t be impacted by these restrictions on the speed with either plan.

6. Video Streaming

Streaming in high definition is available on some Verizon postpaid unlimited plans but not on all Xfinity Mobile options.

Xfinity Mobile claims that users with 5G-compatible devices will see the greatest video resolution available. Because of the priority information I described before, it is the case.

But if you have any 4G-capable lines:

  • By the Gig defaults to HD resolution (720p for phones, 1080p for tablets)
  • Unlimited defaults to standard resolution (480p)

When selecting “By the Gig,” HD quality will be used by default (720p for phones, 1080p for tablets)
Infinitely expands to the default resolution (480p)
Users on the Gig plan can save data by switching to standard definition video with the help of Data Saver. This is the route I would advocate taking.

If you have a 4G device and an Unlimited plan, you may upgrade to HD Pass for an additional $20 per month to enjoy 720p on your phone and 1080p on your tablet.

You may always use Wi-Fi to watch high-definition videos online. In terms of your mobile data, that will not be deducted.

7. Call and Text Performance

For the most part, Verizon’s network has worked well for me in the past, so I wasn’t too concerned about how well Xfinity Mobile would handle calls and texts in my area.

Since Verizon’s network is what Xfinity Mobile uses, the coverage area is similar to that of Verizon’s postpaid service. Xfinity Mobile differs in that it also provides access to millions of Wi-Fi hotspots.

A fantastic advantage of Xfinity Mobile is that it allows me to chat and utilize data at the same time thanks to its support for Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

Wi-Fi calling is now available on almost all mobile smartphones.

8. Phone Selection

Most of the twenty or more phones that Xfinity Mobile sells online and in its stores are the newest iPhones and Samsung handsets, but there are a couple of possibilities for under $200.

The Xfinity Mobile service now supports some Android devices. There are a wide variety of Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices that are compatible. Apple iPhones with the sim card removed work, too.

Xfinity Mobile supports both Bring Your Own Device and the sale of smartphones, tablets, and wearables.

In August of 2022, the following smartphones, some of which support 5G networks, will be on store shelves:

  • Apple iPhone 13
  • Apple iPhone 13 Mini
  • Apple iPhone 13 Pro
  • Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • Apple iPhone 12
  • Apple iPhone SE
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4
  • Samsung Galaxy S22
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
  • Google Pixel 6
  • Moto G Pure
  • Moto G Play
  • Moto G Power

To celebrate my switch to Xfinity Mobile in September 2017, I immediately went online and ordered a Samsung Galaxy S8. At the time, new phone purchases could be made with Xfinity Mobile and receive a $200 discount.

Qualified clients can split device payments out over 24 months at 0% APR, unlike me who paid in full upfront.

When we talk about phone discounts, we usually mean sales on premium models like the newest Samsung Galaxy or Apple iPhone. As of this revision, you can save up to $450 on some Samsung smartphones.

Wait a few weeks, and I bet you’ll find a deal on the phone you want. The discounts vary on a regular basis.

9. Customer Service

I had no trouble initiating my Xfinity Mobile service, which I set up without ever having to set foot inside a store.

Several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages are accessible from within the app, covering topics such as activating service, changing data plans, understanding your account, and more.
