How to place a wager at TwinSpires
The homepage of TwinSpires features a sampling of the available markets, such as the most recent Carryovers, Next Up, which displays the next six races from all around the world, the daily Stakes schedule, and today’s Top Picks.
All other races for today can be accessed using the Bet Now button located towards the top of the page. As a matter of course, the racing schedule is formatted so that the day’s best races appear first, followed by the rest of the races in time order, beginning with the next race to start.
Greyhound, Harness, and Thoroughbred races are all available to select from in the drop-down menu. Additionally, you may change the default sorting to track, making it much simpler to discover the racecards for a certain track than for all of the races of the day in time order.

Betting Odds
Bettors at TwinSpires, and in horse racing betting more generally, compete against one another in a pool rather than against a bookmaker offering set odds, as is the case in traditional sportsbooks. Parimutuel gambling is a popular form of wagering.
In parimutuel betting, all wagers are pooled together to create a pot, from which the track takes a cut and the rest is distributed to the various winners of the race.
When the pools are finalized, the most recent information will be displayed just underneath the race card for every given race. These numbers are subject to vary up until the off, as the payout is determined by the picks bettors wager on.
You can get an indication of what the payments are projected to be in the “probable payout/pool” area, which can be helpful while the pools are initially forming and may not provide the clearest picture of the odds you can expect at the outset.
