Steps To Hard Reset PS4 Controller?
If re-pairing the controller does not solve the issue, the problem may lie with the controller rather than the PS4. A controller reset appears to be in order. If you want to reset your PlayStation 4 controller, you’ll need a folded paper clip (or something similarly small and sturdy) to push a hidden button.
- Be sure to turn off your PS4 and your internet router or modem before attempting a reset.
- Find the little hole on the right side of the controller by flipping it over. For three to five seconds, press and hold the button inside while inserting the paperclip. Keeping the grip for at least 10 seconds is highly recommended.
Troubleshoot PS4’s Controller Problems
If you’re having trouble with your DualShock 4 controller after the pairing process, try the following solutions.
Issue 1: PS4 Controller’s Light Won’t Turn On
If the controller’s power indicator won’t light up and stay off, the battery may be dead. Your controller may not be able to power on or connect with your system because the batteries are dead.
In such a situation, you can charge the controller by plugging it into the PS4 through USB. Try connecting it to your game system again after waiting a while.
Issue 2: DualShock 4 Controller Won’t Pair With the PS4
If the controller’s light is on but it still won’t connect to the console, doing a factory reset may help.
To accomplish this, you must first remove the controller from the system. There is a little hole behind the L2 button on your controller. Using a small object (like a paperclip) inserted into this hole, the reset button can be pressed. Maintain a five-second button press.

Synchronizing A PS4 Controller:
There are only two USB ports on the system, but you can still sync up to four controllers per player account, and any USB 2.0 Micro-B connection will work to connect the DualShock 4 to the console.
- Connect the controller’s USB end to the controller’s connector and the other end to a USB port on the PS4’s front before turning the system on.
- Turn on your PS4 by pressing the power button located on its underside. After you’ve connected your controller, it should automatically be set to the first available player slot.
- By pressing the controller’s PS button, you can access the login screen and sign in with an existing account or make a new one.
