Gmail Not Receiving Emails: 8 Basic troubleshooting methods!
If you’ve ever found yourself asking, “Why is my Gmail not receiving emails?” you’re not alone. This problem could have several causes, but its resolution is usually simple.
An incompatible web browser may be the cause of your Gmail’s inability to receive new messages. If you’re having issues and are still using an earlier version of Chrome or Firefox, upgrading to the most recent release might help. Alternatively, it’s possible that your email filters are mistakenly trashing important communications.
8 Basic troubleshooting methods To Try
1. Is Google down?
It’s not unheard of for Google’s servers to be offline for maintenance or unanticipated issues. If Gmail is down or has been down recently, you can check the status of Google’s workplace to see if the problem is being worked on.
If Google’s servers are down for maintenance, your email client may not have been dealt with properly. We suggest requesting a resend from the original sender in such a scenario.
2. Send a Test Email to Yourself
If you’re encountering problems, sending an email is a wonderful first step in finding a solution. Just fire off an email from Gmail and another from another service like Yahoo or Outlook. Usually, the problem is on the other end if you can receive emails on your computer but not send them.
3. Check your Junk Folder
Be careful to check your spam folder if you think you may have missed an email from Google. It’s possible that Google’s automated spam filter flagged the message and directed it here. When you first launch Gmail, the spam folder is typically located in the upper left.
The intended email could possibly be in the trash if your antivirus software filters incoming messages.
4. Check your Recycle Bin
If you haven’t received the email you expected, check your trash folder. Possibly you removed it inadvertently or hit the wrong button. Unfortunately, this is a regular issue with antivirus software that automatically deletes infected emails.
5. Search all Mail
On the left side of your inbox, you’ll see an option labeled All Mail. All account-related correspondence is presented here.
The All Mail tab may contain the desired message if you cannot locate it in the Trash or Spam folders. As an added bonus, you may keep your email archives here as well. Swiping an email to the left or right archives it.
6. Check for Recent Google App Updates
It is crucial to maintain your Gmail app up-to-date to avoid any potential syncing issues or other problems that could lead to losing email data. You may get the most recent version of the software from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
7. Test a Different Browser
Switch to a different web browser if you still can’t access your email. The number of browsers that can access Gmail is quite low, with only four currently supported. Any of them should work, though.
Any of these web browsers should work fine for accessing your Gmail account:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
8. Log Out Of Your Account
Doing a logout and log back in or a force sync with Google’s servers may help if you aren’t seeing all of your Gmail messages on your device.
Check Your Email Account Storage
There is a hard limit on the number of messages that can be stored in your Gmail account before the service is disabled. Open Google Drive to view your current storage limit. On the right-hand side of your screen, you’ll see how much space you have on your Gmail account (15 GB by default for all users).
To free out your storage space and continue receiving messages, delete files from Google Drive or emails in your Trash.
Despite the name, Gmail’s Trash folder does not perform an immediate purge of any messages you move there. Google will store these messages for 30 days, after which time they will be deleted. It’s possible that doing so will result in the email being permanently deleted from your inbox.
Check Your Email Filter Settings
When spam emails from bots or advertising begin to flood your inbox, you must take immediate action by installing an email filter. It’s possible that the email you’re waiting for was caught in a spam filter.
In terms of customization, Gmail has few options. If you must do this, I recommend using a computer. If you don’t have access to a computer, you may still check your Gmail by launching the mobile web browser.
It’s imperative that you enable the desktop version by checking the box in your browser.
This data is available online and can be accessed by:
- Open your Gmail account.
- Click on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Click the “See all Settings” button.
- Go to “Filters & Blocked Addresses”
- Unblock or remove filters from the email address that you do not wish to receive emails.
Ask senders to resend their email if they have unblocked or unfiltered it. The email should be delivered to your Gmail account without any problems.
Disable Email Forwarding
Email forwarding might be helpful for people who have recently moved to new email service. Any messages sent to your previous email address will automatically be sent to your current one. With this disabled, you will no longer get alerts by email.
If you are still using your previous method’s Gmail settings, you can go to step 3.
- To access your settings, open Gmail and click on the gear icon.
- Click the “See all Settings” button.
- Go to the “Forwarding POP/IMAP” tab.
- Before refreshing your Gmail, disable the forwarding option and save all changes.
If your forwarding option was disabled by mistake, you will need to ask your sender for a resend. That should resolve your problem.
Ask an Admin to check the Google Console
This step is more suited to people who have an email account under a business subscription or Google Workspace. This is an option for users whose email does not finish with “@gmail.com”.
To have your email address made available to your administrators, simply have them visit admin.google.com. Even if your Google emails don’t make it to your inbox, the sender can still be identified.
Because the problem lies with the sender if the email can’t be located on Google’s servers.
