Viktor Hovland is a professional golfer from Norway who plays mostly on the PGA Tour. In the United States, his father was employed by a private corporation, while his mother cared for the family. After moving to the United States as a child, Hovland and his family settled in Oklahoma.

Amateur Career

Hovland has a slew of amateur victories under his belt. He won the Alcaidesa Winter Open in 2014, and he’s had some success since then. He became the first Norwegian to win the U.S. Amateur in 2018 with his victory. It earned him invites to the 2019 Masters Tournament, US Open, and open championships in 2019 with that recognition.
He finished in a tie for 32nd place at the 2019 Masters Tournament as the tournament’s lowest amateur. He rose to the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking as a result of his performance. With a final round of 280 in the 2019 U.S. Open, he tied for 12th position among amateurs and was the tournament’s low amateur.
After the 2019 U.S. Open, Hovland turned professional. At the Travelers Championship in 2019, he made his professional debut. He tied for second place at the Albertsons Boise Open in August of this year. He was awarded a PGA Tour card for the 2019-20 season as a result of his impressive showing. The first Norwegian to win on the European Tour was Hovland in the BMW International Open in June 2021.
At Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, in September 2021, Hovland was a member of the European team that competed in the Ryder Cup. Hovland went 0–3–2 in his Sunday singles match against Collin Morikawa, but the Americans prevailed 19–9.
At the World Wide Technology Championships in Mayakoba, Mexico, in November 2021, the reigning champion was Hovland. For the competition, that was a tournament record score of 23 under par. A month later, Hovland triumphed at the Hero World Challenge, winning the tournament by one stroke. Back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 in the final round were crucial to this victory.
After his first five professional victories, all of which occurred outside of the contiguous United States, he earned the moniker “Resort King” for his success in golf resorts.
In January 2022, Hovland finished in the top five at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the European Tour. After a final-round 66, he won the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic with a birdie on the opening hole of a sudden-death playoff against Richard Bland, who finished second. Topping the official world golf rankings, he climbed to third place as a result of his triumph. As of July 7th, Ping announced that Hovland has struck a multi-year relationship with the brand.
