American football quarterback Jared Thomas Goff plays for the National Football League’s Detroit Lions (NFL). He was selected first overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft after playing college football for California.
Early Life
Goff, the son of former Major League Baseball player Jerry Goff, was born in San Rafael, California, and reared in Novato, California. He also has a Lauren-named older sister. In honor of Joe Montana, who played for the San Francisco 49ers before Goff was born, Goff, who grew up as a fan of the 49ers, wears the number 16.
Goff graduated in 2013 from Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California. In three varsity football seasons at Marin Catholic, he was a quarterback for teams that combined for a 39-4 overall record and a 21-0 Marin County Athletic League mark on their way to an appearance in the state championship game, one North Coast Section title, three NCS playoff appearances, and three MCAL championships. He threw for 7,687 yards and 93 touchdowns with 18 interceptions during those seasons, good for a passer rating of 125.5.

Career
The Los Angeles Rams selected Goff with the first overall choice in the 2016 NFL Draft. Goff committed to a four-year contract worth $27.9 million, which included an $18.6 million signing bonus, on June 9, 2016.
After serving as experienced Case Keenum’s backup for the first nine games, Goff was named the starting quarterback for the Rams’ game against the Miami Dolphins on November 15. The subsequent final seven games saw Goff start.
In the following week’s 21-49 loss against the New Orleans Saints, Goff completed 20/32 of his passes for 214 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
In a 14-42 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14, Goff completed 24 passes out of 41 attempts for 235 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions. On a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter, he also scored the first running touchdown of his career.
In his seven games played in 2016, all of which he started, Goff completed 112 of 205 passes for 1,089 yards and five touchdowns against seven interceptions.

Due to an enzyme deficit, Goff’s body is unable to digest proteins. It makes it harder to metabolize red meat, among other things.
Goff debuted “JG16,” his own apparel line, in the summer of 2019. During the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, he gave $250,000 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
