Early Life
George van Morrison, better known as Van Morrison, was born on August 31st, 1945 in Bloomfield, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Violet, his mother, was a tap dancer and vocalist, while George, his father, worked as an electrician in a shipyard. Van went to Elmgrove Primary School and grew up listening to records from his father’s collection, which was one of the largest in all of Northern Ireland. When Van was 11 years old, George gave him an acoustic guitar. At 12, he joined the band The Sputniks, and at 14, he formed Midnight Special.

Career
Morrison and members of The Gamblers (Ronnie Millings, Alan Henderson, Billy Harrison, and Eric Wrixon) founded Them in April 1964, and the band had its debut show at the Maritime Hotel’s new R&B club that month. Personal Life
Janet Rigsbee, Van’s girlfriend in 1968, consented to get married to him so he wouldn’t be deported. Van became the stepfather to Peter, Janet’s son from a previous relationship, and on April 7, 1970, the couple relocated from New York to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they had already welcomed their daughter Shana (who went on to become a singer-songwriter). Morrison and Rigsbee’s relationship ended in 1973, and upon Van’s return to the United Kingdom, he quickly began dating and eventually married socialite Michelle Rocca in 2006.
The couple, who had two children together (a girl, Abbe, born in January 2006, and a son, Fionn, born in August 2007), split up in 2018. Morrison’s tour manager, Gigi Lee, claimed to have given birth to Van’s child in 2009. Sadly, George Ivan Morrison III lost suddenly at the young age of 13 in 2011. Gigi Lee herself died of throat cancer later that same year. Van has consistently refuted claims that he is in fact George’s biological father.
