Hickenbottom began his professional wrestling career in 1984 with the National Wrestling Alliance. Before making his debut with the WWF in 1987, he competed for a while in Texas All-Star Wrestling and the American Wrestling Association. When this happened, Shawn was in a band called The Midnight Rockers with a guy named Marty Jannetty. As a result of a “bar incident,” the WWF had to terminate The Midnight Rockers, and they had to return to the AWA.
Nonetheless, by 1988, they were back in the WWF. Shawn had already established his own persona as the Heartbreak Kid by 1992.
