Professional Football Career
After graduating from college, Frost was taken by the New York Jets in the third round (67th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft as a safety. In his rookie season, Frost saw action in 13 games, mostly on special teams, and recorded six tackles and two pass breakups.
Frost participated in 14 games that year and recorded seven tackles. Playing in all 16 games in 2000, Frost made his first career start against the Buffalo Bills on October 29. Coaching career
In December of 2002, while on injured reserve with the Green Bay Packers, Frost filled in as a graduate assistant at the university he had previously attended. After that, in 2006, he worked as a graduate assistant at Kansas State. He began working at Northern Iowa in 2007 as the linebackers coach and by 2008 had been promoted to co-defensive coordinator. His defence was third in the FCS in interceptions with 40 in 2008 and eighth in scoring defence (17.7 points per game). The 12-3 Panthers were the best in the Missouri Valley Football Conference in both scoring defence and rushing defence (107.1 yards per game).
Frost was hired as Oregon’s wide receivers coach by head coach Chip Kelly and offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich on January 26, 2009. Oregon went to four consecutive BCS bowls during Frost’s tenure as wide receivers coach, and three of his players were invited to NFL training camps.
On January 31, 2013, Oregon announced the promotion of Mark Helfrich to head coach and the hiring of Frost as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the wake of Chip Kelly’s resignation to coach the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League.
Frost was nominated as a finalist for the 2014 Broyles Award, which recognizes the best assistant coach in the United States. He coached the quarterbacks and was responsible for the success of the team that included Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and advanced to the championship game.
