Paul Tschinkel filmed a 1999 documentary on Poons’s work, titled Larry Poons: On Making Art: Art/New York No. 51. Aside from Jeff Koons, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, and Gerhard Richter, Nathaniel Kahn’s 2018 documentary The Price of Everything also features Poons.

Since he was 16 years old, Poons has been riding motorbikes, primarily on English or Italian models. On various occasions, he raced with the Loudon (New Hampshire) and Bridgehampton (New York) BMX clubs in the 1970s. While competing in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association with a 500cc Seeley G50 Condor and a 250 Ducati Diana in 1991, he developed an interest in the sport.
