American actor, comedian, and political satirist Jon Stewart have a $120 million fortune. He gained notoriety as “The Daily Show’s” host from 1999 to 2015.

Comedy and A Career in Television

Stewart eventually made a trip back to the Big Apple in 1986 to try his hand at comic club work there. At The Bitter End, the same bar where Woody Allen launched his career, he made his stand-up debut. He started using the stage name “Jon Stewart” during this time. He ultimately established himself as a regular performer at the Comedy Cellar, closing out each night at two in the morning.

In 1989, he was hired as a writer for “Caroline’s Comedy Hour,” which was his first television gig. Later, in 1990, he and Patty Rosborough would co-host Comedy Central’s “Short Attention Span Theater,” and in 1992, he would host MTV’s “You Wrote It, You Watch It.” Stewart claims that his March 6, 1992 appearance on “Late Night with David Letterman” was the turning point in his career.

In 1993, Stewart created and launched “The Jon Stewart Show,” a chat show on MTV. It was the first chat show on MTV to become an instant hit, and it was also the second-highest-rated program on the network. After a period of declining ratings, the program was canceled in June 1995.

Craig Kilborn left Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in 1999, and Jon Stewart took over as host. Stewart hosted nearly all episodes of “The Daily Show,” with the exception of a few instances when correspondents such as Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, or Jason Jones filled in as host and John Oliver’s brief stint as host during the summer of 2013.

He took a temporary break in 2013, during which John Oliver temporarily took control, in order to make the movie “Rosewater” (2014). Twenty Primetime Emmy Awards were given to Stewart for “The Daily Show” as a writer or producer.

Stewart’s final “The Daily Show” episode after 2,579 episodes aired on August 6, 2015. Trevor Noah, a comedian from South Africa, took up as host in his place.

Stewart has largely avoided the spotlight since leaving “The Daily Show.” Stewart agreed to a four-year contract with HBO in November 2015. An “animated spoof of a cable news network” was being created at the time, but after having its premiere postponed multiple times, the project was ultimately canceled in May 2017. He has also occasionally appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” since 2015.
