John Elway founded five car dealerships under the brand name John Elway Autos. The dealerships in Denver were purchased by AutoNation for $82.5 million in 1997. As part of the agreement, AutoNation had the right to use Elway’s name in promotional materials until 2006.

After being selected by the Baltimore Colts in the 1983 NFL Draft, John Elway infamously forced the team to move him the following season. If he wasn’t moved, Elway vowed to join the New York Yankees as a baseball player (he could have made it to the big leagues in baseball). His wish was granted when he was sent to the Denver Broncos in a trade.
