On December 12, 1947, Azoff was born in Danville, Illinois. His early years and parents are not well known, however, he was raised in a Jewish household and went to Danville High School. REO Speedwagon, a band with roots in Champaign, was Azoff’s first management client. Dan Fogelberg was then under his management. Along with Fogelberg, he relocated to Los Angeles in 1972, and soon after, he secured employment with Geffen-Roberts Management. He began assisting the Eagles while still employed by this company. Then, this union endured for more than four decades.
He rose to the position of chairman of MCA Music Entertainment Group after more than a decade of employment in Los Angeles. He held this post for six years, during which time the struggling label experienced success.
After leaving MCA, he joined Warner Music Group and founded Giant Records there. He oversaw the record label throughout the majority of the 1990s until Azoff made the decision that he would rather focus on managing musicians again.

One of the oldest still open eateries in Los Angeles, The Apple Pan, was bought by the couple. With a group of investors from Los Angeles, they soon acquired Nate n Al’s, another eatery. Given that it was established in 1945, the restaurant is also among the most established ones in Los Angeles.
