In September of 1986, Heidi Blair Pratt (née Montag) was born to parents Bill and Darlene in Crested Butte, Colorado. Her parents got divorced and then both remarried.
Montag also has a younger brother named Sky and an older sister named Holly, both of whom have been on reality television. She lost her stepbrother Eric in 2008 after he fell off an icy roof.
Montag attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California after finishing high school in Crested Butte. There she met Lauren Conrad, a star of MTV’s Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and the two became fast friends.
They met at the Los Angeles campus of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, where they both eventually enrolled, setting the stage for Montag’s appearance. As an alternative, she left school to begin working at Bolthouse Productions.

Montag appeared in an episode of Famous Food in 2011 in which she and other celebrities vied for a restaurant joint venture. Montag was a main character in the sixth and final season of The Hills, but she and Pratt were booted off the show when Pratt made threats against the show’s creator. Heidi and Spencer’s son was born in October of 2017; he is a boy.
