Film Career:

First appearing on the big screen as British Army officer Edward Brittain in the biographical drama “Testament of Youth” (2014), Egerton is widely considered one of the most promising young actors of the future. He first gained widespread recognition the following year for his role as spy trainee Gary “Eggsy” Unwin in the action comedy “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” based on the eponymous comic book series. Later that year, Egerton appeared alongside Tom Hardy in the crime drama “Legend,” a biopic.
He co-starred with Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Jim Broadbent, and Iris Berben in the 2016 biographical sports picture “Eddie the Eagle,” in which he played Olympic ski jumper, Michael David Edwards. Egerton also provided his voice for the adolescent gorilla Johnny in the 2016 animated musical comedy “Sing.” Actors including Matthew McConaughey, Seth MacFarlane, Reese Witherspoon, John C. Reilly, and Scarlett Johansson provided their voices for additional characters.
In the 2017 action comedy “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” Egerton returned to his role as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin. After that, he was in two critically panned movies, “Billionaire Boys Club,” a biographical criminal thriller, and “Robin Hood,” an action/adventure movie, in which he played the titular folk outlaw.
This year, however, Egerton has redeemed himself with his most critically acclaimed performance to date, as singer Elton John in the historical musical drama “Rocketman.” He took up the piano and performed vocals on set, both of which were new skills for him at the time of filming. After the film’s success, Egerton was honored with several awards and nominations, including the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy. The animated follow-up “Sing 2” was released in 2021, and it featured him once again as Johnny the gorilla. Egerton has portrayed video game tycoon Henk Rogers in the biopic “Tetris.”

In 2013, Egerton made his television debut on the British detective series “Lewis,” where he played the role of Liam Jay in two episodes. The next year, he starred as Dennis “Asbo” Severs on the short-lived series “The Smoke,” about a rookie firefighter in London. In 2018, Egerton made his television return as the voice of El-Ahrairah in the “Watership Down” animated miniseries on Netflix. Over the years that followed, he kept doing voice work.
As of this year, Egerton has provided the voice of Gelfling Rian in “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” a Netflix fantasy series that serves as a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson and Frank Oz film of the same name. Additionally, in 2019, Egerton started voicing Moomintroll in the English dub of the Finnish animated musical series “Moominvalley,” based on the “Moomin” books and comics. Apart from it, he also worked on the Apple TV+ miniseries “Black Bird,” which was adapted from James Keene’s autobiographical novel “In With the Devil.” In the show, Egerton plays the role of Keene.
