In Charlotte, Michigan, USA, on November 21, 1993, Cooper Rush was born. His parents, Matthew and Frances Rush, gave birth to him. He enrolled at Lansing Catholic High School to further his education. He started at quarterback for his high school football for all three years. He was a standout quarterback in high school, guiding his squad to back-to-back victories in the regular seasons in 2010 and 2011.

He had his best junior season in 2015. He passed for 3,703 yards in the first 13 games, setting a new school mark for a single season. Rush also had 3848 throwing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions on 66.3% of his throws completed.
He had a low completion rate of 59.8% when he began his senior year. Additionally, his output decreased to 3540 throwing yards and 23 touchdowns. At the conclusion of his college career, he had 90 touchdown passes and 12,894 passing yards.
The Dallas Cowboys signed Cooper on May 12 as an undrafted free agent. He initially competed in the training camp alongside Zac Dysert as the backup quarterback as a rookie. He held onto his position as the backup quarterback in 2018 and was not even opposed to it in 2019. He signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys as a restricted free agent in March 2020.
On May 4, though, the Cowboys released him when they signed Andy Dalton. Rush joined the New York Giants practice squad in September 2020. On September 29, 2020, he was yet promptly cut off from the Giants practice squad. He returned to the Dallas Cowboys in October 2020, when he was added to the practice squad.
