Career:
“Confessions of Fire” was Cameron’s first album, and it was released in July of 1998. The album reached the top 10 on both the pop and R&B charts, earning a Gold certification in both genres. Sony/Epic Records issued Cameron’s second studio album, titled “Sports Drugs & Entertainment,” in the year 2000. The album peaked at #2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list and #14 on the Billboard 200. Cameron departed Sony/Epic Records for Roc-A-Fella Records, reportedly signing a $4.5 million record deal since the former label pressured him to release a new album before he was ready.
In 2002, he released “Come Home with Me,” his most commercially successful album to date. Among the album’s participants were Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, and Memphis Bleek; its producers included Kanye West and The Heatmakerz. The album went Platinum and yielded the smash singles “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma.” Cameron also had a role in the 2002 crime drama “Paid in Full.”
Cameron & The Diplomats, his hip-hop duo, released their debut album, “Diplomatic Immunity,” on Roc-A-Fella Records in 2003. Cameron released his fourth studio album, Purple Haze, in 2004. Cameron felt his records weren’t getting enough promotion and attention while on Roc-A-Fella Records, so he switched to Asylum Records and released his fifth studio album, “Killa Season,” in 2006. Despite being awarded Gold, album sales were lower than his previous efforts. Killa Season was a film he created, produced, and starred in that year.
After Cameron’s mother had three strokes that left her partially paralyzed in 2007, he took a three-year break from his career. He followed her to Florida to be by her side during her recovery, and he stayed there until she was well again.
Cameron has released seven studio albums to date: “Crime Pays” in 2009 and “Purple Haze 2” in 2019. He also wrote and appeared in a number of films during this time, in addition to releasing a number of mixtapes and singles.

When Cameron refused to hand over his 2006 Lamborghini to a car thief on October 23rd, 2005 in Washington, DC, the passenger of a passing car opened fire, killing the rapper.
Cameron was released from the hospital in a vehicle and made a full recovery. Cameron claims he witnessed the shooter flash the Roc-A-Fella Records hand signal before opening fire, but no one has yet been arrested.
