After being introduced to him by his cousin Young Bleed, Boosie joined forces with Baton Rouge rapper C-Loc in the late ’90s. Later Boosie first appeared on C-fifth Loc’s studio album, 2000’s It’s A Gamble.

The result was Boosie’s debut album, Youngest Of Da Camp, which went on to sell over 10,000 copies. After signing with Trill Entertainment and releasing his second studio album, For My Thugz, as Lil Boosie in 2001, he became widely known by that name.

In 2006, he dropped his debut studio album, Bad Azz, and he’s kept dropping smash singles ever since.

However, East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies discovered marijuana and a Glock in Boosie’s car in October 2008, leading to his arrest. One year later, he pled guilty to his third marijuana possession charge and was immediately given a two-year prison term.

While his supporters were outraged by his tough decision to plead guilty to sneaking drugs into prison in 2011, they organized the free Boosie Campaign to try to get the rapper’s sentence reduced.

It was thanks to the efforts of that Campaign that Boosie was able to get out of jail in March of 2014 after serving only 5 of his 10-year sentence.

Soon after his release from jail, Boosie signed with Atlantic Records and dropped his debut single, “Show Da World,” featuring Webbie. After being diagnosed with kidney cancer in November 2015, Boosie lost 20 pounds in just 13 days. In the end, he decided on surgery, and it was a success.

After being banned from Instagram, musician Lil Boosie stated in December 2020 that he was going to sue Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for $20 million. Boosie said in an interview with VladTV that the loss of his Instagram account had cost him up to $20 million in negotiations. When he made the assertion, he hadn’t yet filed the complaint, so it was hard to tell if he was serious.

Legal Problems

Boosie has been arrested and incarcerated several times. First-degree murder and drug distribution conspiracy charges were brought against him in 2010. Later, prosecutors would say they had reason to suspect Boosie in “at least five other homicides.” After a lengthy trial, a jury judged him not guilty of murder but guilty of drug trafficking. He received a state jail term of eight years.

After successfully arguing that Boosie had been set up by informants, Boosie was finally released from prison in 2014.
