Stephen Lang Talks About how His Avatar Character Comes to Life!

Despite his character seemingly dying in the original Avatar, Stephen Lang is set to make his return as Colonel Miles Quaritch in Avatar: The Way of Water. In a recent interview with Empire, Lang revealed just how that s possible.

Lang will portray a recon version of himself in the eagerly awaited sequel to the film Avatar. In essence, according to Lang, an independent avatar has been downloaded with the intellect, emotions, and possibly even the spirit of Quaritch.

He is an autonomous genetically engineered avatar, according to Lang. He has been imbued with the thoughts, feelings, and, most intriguingly, perhaps the Quaritch spirit. Now, that is all pretty occult information. Before actually undergoing the DNA transfer, he already has a full memory store. As a result, there are some events that he completely lacks memory of. He had no recollection of dying.

Although Lang’s Quaritch is now contained within an avatar, this does not mean that he will become any friendlier or more accepting of those who get in his way.

When questioned if he was still the same old Quaritch, Lang replied, “I believe it’s fair to say it, but I think it’s incomplete.” If you stop to think about it, Quaritch actually served a purpose in the first movie. He was a colorful and charismatic character, but his primary purpose was to add drama. He still serves that purpose, but I believe he is much more than that simply based on the depths of what Jim is examining in this. We are now able to see aspects of him that we have not previously seen. That only makes sense because we don’t want to repeatedly massage the same area. We must visit different locations, and he definitely wants to.

James Cameron co-wrote and directed the sequel. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver are among the actors who return in it. Along with a number of young actors, the cast also included Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Jemaine Clement, and Oona Chaplin.
