When Does Hocus Pocus Come Out? the Hocus Pocus Sequel Is Coming to Disney Plus on September 30, 2022.
The Sanderson girls have returned! To celebrate the nearly 30-year anniversary of the original Hocus Pocus, Disney+ is bringing audiences back to Salem with a brand-new installment. The first film was widely panned and was estimated to have cost Disney about $16.5 million.
Hocus Pocus, on the other hand, has become a cult favorite over time, with sales and streaming numbers increasing every October. Hocus Pocus 2 will be directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), with a script by Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics). It was supposed to be directed by Adam Shankman (Enchanted), but he had to withdraw to direct the sequel, Disenchanted.
Along with Hocus Pocus co-writer David Kirschner and directors Lynn Harris (The 5th Wave) and Steven Haft, he continued on as a producer. John Debner, who scored the first film and will do so again in the sequel, is also returning.
In October 2019, it was announced that production on the film would begin in October 2021, with many of the original cast and crew returning for the sequel. Only three months later, in early 2022, filming was finally completed, but after receiving negative feedback from test audiences about the film’s ending, producers decided to reshoot some material in June.
In preparation for the arrival of autumn, this article will provide all the information you need about Hocus Pocus 2 and act as a gentle reminder to break out the pumpkin spice lattes and scented candles.
Summary of “Hocus Pocus “
As the sun crested the horizon in 1993, our last glimpse of the Sanderson Sisters showed them crumbling to ashes, as if Thanos had snapped his fingers. Still, as the film concluded, the iconic book’s eye opened again, suggesting a possible reappearance.
Becca (Whitney Peak), Cassie (Lilia Buckingham), and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo), three high school friends, mistakenly summon the Sanderson sisters during a fun witchy ritual on Becca’s 16th birthday, 29 years after the events of Hocus Pocus. They need to work together to figure out how to permanently halt the sisters.
When Is Hocus Pocus Release Date?
After September 30, 2022, Disney+ subscribers will be the only ones able to see Hocus Pocus 2. While many who celebrate Halloween eagerly await September 30, it may be difficult to envision cooler weather, crunchy leaves underfoot, and the Sanderson sisters making their way downtown (Salem) while the summer is just getting started.
Who’s in the Cast of Hocus Pocus?
Winnifred Sanderson (Bette Midler), Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker, And Just Like That…) will all be back for another round. Doug Jones (The Shape of Water) will also be reprising his role as Winnifred’s ex-boyfriend Billy Butcherson, the zombie version of himself.
Becca’s actress Whitney Peak is no stranger to unsettling situations, having been in shows like “Home Before Dark” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Lillia Buckingham, noted for her work in Crown Lake, will play Becca’s pal Cassie, while American Horror Stories alum Belissa Escobedo will play Becca’s best friend Izzy.
Also joining the cast are Sam Richardson (who will portray Gilbert of “The Olde Salem Magic Shoppe”) and Tony Hale (who will play Mayor Jefry Traske) of Veep fame. One of the most intriguing new cast members of Hocus Pocus 2 is simply referred to as “The Witch.” This new, unnamed character will be played by Hannah Waddingham, who has previously been in films including Sex Education and Ted Lasso.
The actress who portrayed Dani Dennison in the original Hocus Pocus, Thora Birch, has previously said she will not be participating in the sequel due to scheduling difficulties with the upcoming Netflix premiere on Wednesday.
On top of that, neither Jason Marsden (the voice of the feline Thackery Binx) nor Sean Murray (who played the human version) will be returning for the sequel. Neither the black cat’s ability to communicate nor its voice actor is known from the trailer.
It’s been said that a moment would occur in which the Sanderson sisters meet drag queen doppelgangers of themselves, which should provide some comic relief. At some point, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Ginger Minj, Cornbread Jeté, and Kahmora Hall will show up as the Sanderson sisters, and it will be fantastic.
Hocus Pocus Teaser Trailer:
The first trailer for the follow-up film dropped on June 28. Even though it’s brief, the teaser gives viewers a taste of the horror that awaits them when the film opens in theatres this fall. There are black cats, a graveyard ritual, and a full moon. The Sanderson Sisters return with a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning, prompting Winifred to demand, “lock up your children!”
