When Does Frozen 3 Come Out? Is ‘Frozen 3’ Confirmed to Be Coming out Soon?

Despite Frozen 2’s indisputable popularity (it was the highest-grossing animation ever after its November 2019 release), Disney has failed to go through with a third installment.

The last time we heard anything definitive about it was around the time Disney+ published “Into the Unknown” in June 2020. Mark Smith, Frozen II’s director of the story, has stated that a third film has not been discussed.

Co-director of both Frozen films alongside Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck, shared his sentiments. “When people come to us with questions, I usually tell them to check back with us in a little while.

Without any real authority, Kristen Bell announced Frozen 3 in June. Those were her exact words: “Keep in mind that I actually meant “zero authority,” since I am unable to make any decisions of my own. Obviously, I can’t comply with such a request. I’m not in charge here.

There may be plans afoot, and something may even materialize, but only possibly.

Mysterious.

However, before the publication of the sequel, Lee did say that the end of the story for Anna and Elsa was a distinct possibility in the sequel. She did point out that the same thing was mentioned at the end of the previous film.

“We feel that we’ve achieved our goals in doing this. To be fair, the first one had the same effect. Just what is going on, we cannot say. In my opinion, we’ve reached the end of the road at this point “she elaborated

Thinking about all this, we can make the following assumptions regarding a possible Frozen 3.

Frozen 3 Potential Release Date: When Could We Expect Frozen 3?

With a six-year gap between Frozen and Frozen 2, it’s possible that fans won’t see Anna and Elsa again until 2025, even if Frozen 3 is greenlit.

Given the immense amount of work that goes into developing an animation, as detailed in the superb making-of-Frozen II video series Into the Unknown (streamable on Disney+), this disconnect is natural.

As of this writing, it seems like we’ll be waiting a very long time for Frozen 3. So, there’s hope Disney announces it soon so we can get a clearer idea of when to expect it.

Frozen 3 Casts: Who’s Coming Back for Frozen 3?

Both Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel have expressed interest in reprising their roles as Anna and Elsa if a third Frozen film is greenlit. Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as Olaf would most likely return.

They probably wouldn’t mind returning, and Gad has already done so for the digital series At Home with Olaf that came out after the release of the sequel.

This is a compilation of videos taken from YouTube. The material shown here may be available in a different format on their website, or you may find additional resources there.
In addition, we may expect to see the return of Sterling K. Brown as Mattias, Jason Ritter as Northuldra member Ryder, Rachel Matthews as Ryder’s sister Honeymaren, and Ciarán Hinds as Rock Trolls leader Pabbie.

We may get to see more of Anna and Elsa’s parents, Iduna and Agnarr, played by Evan Rachel Wood and Alfred Molina, following their appearances in flashbacks in Frozen 2.

All of this casting is pure speculation until Disney officially announces the third film.

Frozen 3 Plot: How Does Frozen 2’s Ending Set up A Third Movie?

Anna and Elsa return for a second adventure in the magical forest beyond Arendelle to find out what’s causing the mysterious voice to call to Elsa and to stop the enchanted spirits from ruining the kingdom.

The forest was cut off from the rest of the world because of a conflict that took place in the past between soldiers from Arendelle and the inhabitants of Northuldra who live there.

In a nutshell, they learn that their parents were shipwrecked on the way to Ahtohallan, where Elsa’s ability originates, to investigate the island’s legends. Anna and Elsa learn that their mother was a Northuldran once they locate their ship in the magical forest.

In addition, the fight began when their grandpa built a dam in the woods to subdue the Northuldrans. Breaking the dam and setting free the forest is the only way Anna can make up for the wrongs of the past.

Elsa had been stuck in the icy Ahtohallan for some time trying to find the voice, which turned out to be a childhood recollection of her mother. Elsa’s transformation into the ‘fifth spirit’ connects the enchanted and mundane realms, but as each good bridge needs a second half, Anna’s role is equally important.

Elsa remains in the forest, and Anna is crowned queen of Arendelle, guaranteeing peace and prosperity for both countries.

The producer’s claim that the two films depict “one complete story” is fulfilled; the plot threads introduced in Frozen feel naturally resolved here. Anna has discovered her place in the world, while Elsa has finally come to terms with her mystical side.

There would have to be some artificial conflict created such that Anna and Elsa were in danger again in order for there to be a third film, and that would increase the film’s potential of becoming a superfluous sequel.

Therefore, in Gad’s opinion, a third film will only be made if there “was a purpose to exist,” much like with the second film. “I have no idea if or when a third Frozen film will be made. Excuse me, but that’s over my pay grade! “he shared with PopCulture.com.

I have faith that one day, Jennifer Lee and the amazing crew at Disney Animation will tell that narrative if there is always a story worth telling.
