set against the social unrest of the early 1980s in a beach village in Southern England. The movie’s summary describes Empire of Light as an intimate and affecting tale about love, friendship, and connection. At the former Empire Cinema on the seashore, Hilary (Olivia Colman), a lady with a troubled history and an uneasy present, is a member of a temporary family. The two discover an odd relationship when Stephen (Michael Ward) is hired to work at the theatre, and they also learn about the therapeutic value of music, movies, and communities.
