Jon Favreau of “The Mandalorian” Says that Grogu and Din Djarin Won’t Be in Any Movies!

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau concurs that some productions simply perform better on smaller screens. Speaking with Variety, the director revealed several details about plotting the franchise’s future with Dave Filoni, including one starring Grogu and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).

As things stand, the legendary team won’t be entering the world of the film anytime soon. Favreau is adamant about continuing to tell their story in an episodic fashion, unlike his experience with interwoven universes in the first two Iron Man movies.

There is always a chance to cross media into other sectors when you have a cast of characters and tales that people identify with. Marvel executes it quite well. It just depends on what the audience wants to hear and how best to use our time, he said. “Keeping this continuing with what we’re doing right now is absolutely a full-time job with all these stories we’re telling. In comparison to film, television has a very different rhythm and timetable.

It’s possible that Grogu and Djarin will appear on a big screen in the future, but for the time being, Lucasfilm is occupied with a number of upcoming films. Along with Season 3 of The Mandalorian, the studio is also working on a spin-off about Ahsoka Tano from the Clone Wars, with Rosario Dawson returning to the role and Hayden Christensen providing the voice of Darth Vader. Another adventure set in the Mandalorian era, Skeleton Crew, is also expected to debut in 2023.

In November 2019, The Mandalorian made its Disney+ debut. In the first season, Din Djarin meets Grogu, a small youngster who also happens to be the same species as Jedi Master Yoda, when they cross paths. This establishes the scene for Season 2, in which the duo seeks out a Jedi Master to instruct Grogu in the ways of the Force. They run upon Ahsoka and Luke Skywalker, two well-known characters from the Star Wars franchise, along the route. The Mandalorian’s third season will premiere on March 1.
