Hacks Season 2 Season Finale: How To Watch, Recaps, and Everything You Need to Know!

Hacks are back for a second season after being one of the greatest new TV shows of 2021. Season 2 of Hacks will provide viewers with more of Deborah’s (Jean Smart, who won an Emmy for her performance) and Ava’s (Hannah Einbinder, who was nominated for an Emmy) dysfunctional and magnificent relationship.

Season 1 of Hacks was rewarded for its critical acclaim with a slew of prizes. Hacks received 15 Emmy nominations in total, including Outstanding Comedy Series, and three wins, including the one stated above. Hacks have established itself as one of HBO Max’s most popular original series. Is it possible to expand on that in the second season?

Who Is in The Hacks Season 2 Cast?

As Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels, Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are the one-two punch of Hacks. The couple showed great chemistry in the first season, and their chemistry should only improve as their characters’ relationship develops.

Smart has recently been on fire. She has also contributed her voice to the popular adult animated series Big Mouth and appeared in the smash 2021 series Mare of Easttown. Legion, Watchmen, Fargo, 24, Garden State, and others are among Smart’s other notable credits. She’ll also be appearing in Damien Chazelle’s forthcoming film Babylon.

With Hacks season 1, Einbinder was a complete surprise (she had just three other credits in little-known projects prior).

Carl Clemons-Hopkins as Marcus, Christopher McDonald as Marty, Kaitlin Olson as DJ, Paul W. Downs as agent Jimmy, Megan Statler as Jimmy’s assistant Kayla, Poppy Liu as Kiki, Rose Abdoo as Josefina, Mark Indelicato as Damien, Angela E. Gibbs as Marcus’s mother, Luenell as Miss Loretta, Johnny Sibilly as Wilson, Joe Mande as Ray, Ally Mak

Laurie Metcalf, Martha Kelly, Ming-Na Wen, and Susie Essman are among the new regular cast members. Margaret Cho and Devon Sawa are set to appear as special guests.

Deborah Vance is a comedy icon at the start of Hacks, with a soon-to-be-record-setting residency performing stand-up in Las Vegas. Her star has dimmed, and she is told that her record-breaking show will be her last, unbeknownst to her. Deborah’s agency links her with another of his clients, the down-on-her-luck, entitled comic writer Ava, in an attempt to revitalize her career.

They’re all equally ecstatic to be working together, which isn’t saying much. However, they gradually develop a connection, with Ava seeing that Deborah’s career has more to it than she first realized, and Deborah seeing the rewards and opportunities of changing up her act.

Deborah’s tight group is also introduced to Ava. There’s Deborah’s manager, Marcus, who is juggling his duties as Deborah’s business manager with his personal life; her daughter, DJ, who is frantically trying to discover her own passion; and Marty, the casino owner who is deciding to end Deborah’s residency.

Ava, on the other hand, has her own problems. Her job was on the verge of collapsing due to a botched tweet; she still has feelings for her ex-girlfriend, and her father is suffering from health concerns.

As Deborah prepares for her final residency performance, where she hopes to showcase the new act she and Ava have crafted, things come to a head. Meanwhile, Ava gets a job interview for a new TV show as a writer, which she keeps hidden from Deborah. Ava declines the interview when she hears that the show is only interested in hearing about her experiences working for a demanding employer like Deborah, but the word of the interview reaches Deborah. Deborah declares that she will not participate in their new performance, causing a squabble between the two. Ava dismisses her as a “hack” and returns to Boston to be with her ailing father, who sadly passes away.

Deborah unexpectedly shows up to the funeral. She tells Ava that they did do their show, but it was a flop. She did think there were some parts that worked, though, and she wants to continue working on it with Ava. The two set off on their journey with this purpose in mind, though Ava is reminded of one thing as the season comes to a close: in her rage after resigning, she emailed the TV show writers a bunch of information about Deborah.
