Now that a Gears of War movie is officially in the works, one actor who has been rumored to star in the film for some time has formally thrown his hat into the ring. In a recent tweet, Bautista released a clip from Gears of War 5 footage he had previously shot in 2019. In the clip, Bautista is seen opening a package that contains the armor that the game’s protagonists use. The latest tweet alludes to the recently revealed movie, whereas the earlier video was for Bautista’s introduction into the game as a DLC character.
I can’t make this any easier, the tweet’s caption writes, making reference to the fact that Bautista has previously been outspoken about his desire to play Marcus Fenix.

The part of Fenix has been one that Bautista has been vying for a while. It would be a dream job, he told GameSpot in 2018, and he tweeted the following year that he has done everything in his power to make it happen. In 2021, Bautista maintained this effort by informing Collider that he met with Universal to discuss The Fast and the Furious but ultimately rejected a part in the venerable series in favor of learning how to develop a Gears of War movie.

In the interview, Bautista stated, “They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, but I said I’m not interested. Let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix instead. He has previously had his requests ignored, but it appears that he has never given up on getting the job he wants.
