On Tuesday, the Tour de France had to be paused for a while because a few protesters had set up camp in the middle of the route and were blocking riders with flares.

The men and women appeared to be trying to draw attention to climate change by placing their bodies in the road.

Bicyclists had to halt and wait for them to be cleared, as shown on video from the race’s broadcast, as the spectators stretched out equally across the roadway.

Others wore shirts that stated, “We have 989 days left,” while some of the protesters wore chains around their necks. They remained there until they were forcibly taken off by officials.

Once they had been eliminated, the race’s administrators made sure to retain all of the previous gaps created prior to the break.

The protest, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the one that occurred at the French Open last month, when a woman chained herself to the net and temporarily stopped play on the court.
