Sean Michael Maurice Taylor (April 1, 1983 – November 27, 2007) was a National Football League (NFL) safety for the Washington Redskins (NFL). The Redskins selected him fifth overall in the 2004 NFL Draft, and he played for them for four seasons before his murder in 2007.
Taylor led Gulliver Prep to a state championship in high school and established the state record for single-season touchdowns. Taylor attended Miami University and was a member of the 2001 BCS National Championship team, earning unanimous All-American accolades.

Sean Taylor’s story begins in November 2007, when he was at home in Miami during a botched burglary attempt. Five miles from the Fort Myers region stormed into his home, oblivious to the fact that the NFL star was recovering from a knee injury and would not be playing in the Redskins’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One of the suspects stated that he challenged them with a machete at his bedroom door, which is when he was shot.
Taylor’s fiancée Jackie Garcia Haley and their 18-month-old daughter were also present, but they were unharmed. Sean Taylor was shot in the upper leg and suffered massive blood loss due to a severed femoral artery, which was the cause of death for the Redskins star. He was rushed to the hospital, but died 24 hours later, in one of the worst catastrophes in history.
