1975 frontman Matthew Healy’s given name was Healy. Tim Healy and Denise Welch raised him as their son. Both his mother and father work in the entertainment industry on television. However, in 2012, his parents separated.

Matty and his older brother, Louis, grew up in Newcastle and Cheshire. Recalling his formative years, he adds that he started drum lessons with his dad when he was just four years old. And from that point on, his appreciation for music grew into a full-blown obsession.

On April 8, 1989, soap star Denise Welch and actor Tim Healy gave birth to their son, Matthew Timothy Healy, in Manchester, England. Before settling in 1975 with the help of manager Jamie Oborne, they went under the names “Me and You Versus Them,” “Drive As I Do,” “TALKHOUSE!” and “The Big Sleep.” Healy struggled academically, earning just three GCSEs by the time he graduated.

He felt that school was holding him back from pursuing music, so he dropped out. His mother demanded he attend music college, but after three months he dropped out. In order to make ends meet, he got a part-time job at a Chinese restaurant despite the fact that he was too busy writing songs to focus on it.
