Keanu Reeves, 57, and longtime girlfriend Alexandra Grant, 49, attended the 2022 MOCA Gala at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles over the weekend, making a rare public appearance.

The two are known for keeping their relationship out of the spotlight, and while they’ve only been together for a few years, their friendship dates back to 2009.

Who Is Keanu Reeves’s Girlfriend?

Alexandra Grant is an American visual artist who was born on April 4, 1973, in Ohio and now lives in Los Angeles.

“My early impulses to make work arose from a yearning to build both a native language and a space for myself,” Grant remarked in an interview with Modern Edition in 2008.

“As the daughter of an American diplomat and a Scottish geologist, I grew up traveling from Mexico to France to Spain to the United States.” Like people, books, and ideas migrate from culture to culture, context to context, I became a careful observer of what is gained and lost in translation.”

Her parents split when she was young, and she attended a British school while residing in Mexico City. She went to the Thomas Jefferson School, a boarding school in St Louis, Missouri, for a year when she was 11 years old.

She subsequently relocated to Paris with her mother to study at the International School of Paris. Grant is multilingual, speaking English, Spanish, and French as a result of her upbringing.

In 1990, she graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, a private boarding school in New Hampshire, and in 1995, she earned a BA in history and studio art from Swarthmore College. Grant went on to California College of the Arts in San Francisco, where she earned an MFA in drawing and painting in 2000.

“I grew up in part in Mexico City, Washington, DC, and Paris, bouncing between languages and cultures,” Grant said in an interview with LA Weekly in 2019.

“From the moment I arrived in 1995, Los Angeles felt like home, especially because of the range of people, accents, foods, and flora” (like jacaranda and bougainvillea).

Many people are creative and entrepreneurial, and there is a tremendous work ethic here. It’s incredibly inspiring to have people who are working hard at their craft, whether it’s set design, publishing, or performing.”

Grant had her first solo exhibition in 2007 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and since then she has collaborated on group exhibitions with a number of other writers and artists.

Forêt Intérieure/Interior Forest (2013), ghost town (2016), Antigone is you is me (2017), and Born to Love (2019) are some of her selected solo exhibitions, while Postscript: Writing After Conceptual Art (2012), Drawn to Language (2013), Postscript: Writing After Conceptual Art (2014), and These Carnations Defy Language are some of her selected group exhibitions (2015).

Grant was an adjunct lecturer at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena from 2009 to 2011, and she also taught an MFA session at Cal State Northridge in 2010. Grant was also a mentor at the Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Distance MFA program from 2013 to 2014.

How Did Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant Meet?

In 2009, Grant met keanu Reeves over dinner, and the two worked on a book called Ode to Happiness, which was released by Gerhard Steidl in early 2011.

Ode to Happiness is described on Grant’s website as “a grown-picture up’s book.”

“With artwork by Alexandra Grant and writing by actor Keanu Reeves, this beautifully designed artist’s book serves as a meditation on making the best of a difficult circumstance,” the description reads.

In 2016, the two collaborated on their second book, Shadows, which was published by Steidl once again.

As he and the camera move together, Grant’s images catch Reeves’ shadow as a silhouette portrait at moments and traces of light at other times. Grant has turned the shadows themselves into the source of light by turning the images into color and reversing light for dark.

“Reeves’ texts, written concurrently with the images’ development, give voice to the shadow’s many manifestations: as a projected person, a site of hidden emotion, and a call to shadow play.”

The next year, in 2017, Grant and Reeves founded the small publishing business X Artists’ Books, also known as XAB, with designer Jessica Fleischmann.

How Long Have They Been Together?

Reeves and Grant attended a Stain Laurent fashion show together in June 2019, where they were photographed holding hands, and later that year, in November, when they made their red carpet debut at the LACMA Art and Film Gala, media speculation about their relationship was fueled.

It’s unknown when Reeves and Grant first met, but in a 2020 interview with Page Six, Grant’s friend, actress Jennifer Tilly, provided some insight into the timeframe.

“I remember a couple of years back, probably a year and a half ago, [Grant] saying, “Keanu Reeves is my boyfriend,” and I was like, “Wait,” Tilly remarked. What? What? What?”.”

“It’s very amazing to me how in the last five months, she goes to an event with him and everyone goes crazy, like, “It’s his new girlfriend,” because she has gone to a lot of events with him,” she continued.

“It’s only recently come to light that he’s been dating her for years.”

According to Tilly’s testimony, Grant and Reeves began dating around the year 2018.

In a 2020 interview with Vogue, Grant discussed the attention she experienced after she appeared alongside Reeves in 2019.

“I believe everyone I knew called me in the first week of November, which is intriguing,” she said.

When asked if she could picture herself marrying, Grant replied, “Over a glass of wine… I would love to tell you.” My identity is greatly influenced by love on all levels.

“How’s that for avoiding the question?” says the narrator. I don’t think solitude is the answer. As a painter, I go through a period of isolation, yet I treasure the feeling of being in partnerships.”

Was Keanue Reeves Married to Jennifer Syme?

Jennifer Syme, an actress from the United States, dated Reeves before her death in 2001.

According to reports, Reeves met Jennifer Syme, filmmaker David Lynch’s assistant, at a party hosted for his band Dogstar, for whom he played bass, in 1998.

They began dating, and eight months into her pregnancy, Syme gave birth to her and Reeve’s child on Christmas Eve 1999. Ava Archer Syme-Reeves, their daughter, was stillborn.

Reeves and Syme went their own ways soon after, but they stayed friends and were reunited in 2001.

Syme went to a party at the home of musician Marilyn Manson on April 1, 2001, and after being driven home by a designated driver, she got into her own car, a Jeep, allegedly in an attempt to return to the party.

Syme was killed instantaneously when she crashed her Jeep into a row of parked cars while driving. She was 28 years old at the time. Syme was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, and she was inebriated, according to the inquiry.

Reeves served as a pallbearer for Syme, and she was buried next to her daughter in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles after her funeral.

“Grief changes shape, but it never ends,” Reeves said in a 2006 interview with Parade about Syme and loss. People believe that if you deal with it, you can declare, “It’s gone, and I’m better.” They are mistaken.
