Elvis Presley’s Girlfriend: How Did He Met His Long-Time Girlfriend Linda Thompson?

In July of 1972, Elvis Presley rented out the full Memphian Theater for a personal screening of a movie. On this night, he would finally meet Linda Thompson, the woman he had been seeing for the past four years. Even though the auditorium was almost completely empty, the “Are You Lonesome Tonight” singer made sure that Thompson wasn’t lonely by asking if he needed anything.
During the 2021 Elvis Tupelo Festival, Linda Thompson recalled the time she first met The King. She was holding court in front of Tom Brown and the crowd while seated. After being crowned Miss Tennesse Universe in 1972, she immediately met Elvis Presley.
She was also witnessing Presley’s performance at the same theatre. Thompson said that she and Elvis Presley were having a chat when the King began pounding on the door. His group rushed frantically to unlock the door as he arrived. With a long torch in his hand, he was illuminating his surroundings. The crew’s decision to lock the door prompted his argument.
First Time Meeting Presley
The focus of his spotlight suddenly shifts to Miss Tennessee Universe. Immediately, the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer began to work her magic.
He saw me when the light hit my face and said, “Oh, hey there.” His entire manner shifted, and he transformed into a dashing Southern gentleman. “Who are you, honey?” he asked as he approached me. I quote Thompson:
Linda Thompson was the center of his attention for the rest of the evening.
He was really polite and attentive as we chatted in the lobby. We then entered the house and took seats. Thompson added, “They always had a tiny TV tray made up for him in the middle row of the theatre, and he always sat in the middle row.”
Elvis Presley couldn’t keep from looking back at her, even at the movie theatre. After a while, he got up and sat down next to her. When Thompson noticed that Presley was flirting with her, she became withdrawn and resisted Presley’s advances. But he set the record straight by telling her he was no longer married to Priscilla Presley. Since January, the two have been living apart.

Elvis Presley and Linda Thompson’s Romance
They were together for four years before deciding to part ways. When they started dating, she was 15 years younger than he.
In 2016, Linda Thompson published her own autobiography titled “A Little Thing Called Life: From Elvis’ Graceland to Bruce Jenner’s Caitlyn & Songs in Between.” She detailed their intense romance and time spent together in Graceland.
She remembered one incident in which she tried to be more candid with Elvis about her romantic history, and he reacted by physically pulling away. What he meant was, “Never, ever, ever tell me about a guy that you think is gorgeous. Under no circumstances should you ever discuss the attractiveness of males or the guys you dated in high school or college. I don’t want to know anything about it.”
