As the Judge Grants Johnny Depp yet Another Victory, Amber Heard Suffers a Significant Legal Setback

Since Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard was successful, it seems like not a day has passed without a fresh update on Heard’s attempts to overturn the decision.

Things seemed good for Team Amber earlier this week when Heard’s attorneys asked the judge to declare a mistrial in response to a startling accusation.

One of the jurors was accused by the attorneys of lying about his identification and answering a summons meant for his father, who resides in the same home.

Heard’s counsel asserted that the verdict rendered by the Virginia jury of seven was nullified as a result of this deception.

It went without saying that Amber’s motion for a mistrial appeared to be supported by a number of strong arguments.

Heard Was Unfortunate Since the Judge Did Not Share Her Perspective.

Judge Penney Azcarate allegedly dismissed the fraud claim for the following straightforward reason:

The jury summons that were delivered to the home did not include a date of birth, so they could have been for either the 77-year-old father or the 52-year-old son.

As far as we are aware, there was no “Jr.” or “II” to specify whether the receiver was the father or son.

We can only assume that the judge has read the file and found that no such material is available because she rejected Amber’s request rather than requesting more information.

HeI ard’s request is therefore already invalid.

Amber’s attorneys made multiple requests for the judge to overturn the decision, but it appears that Judge Azcarate was not persuaded by any of them.

The suggestion that the jury was inappropriately screened also seems to irritate the judge.

According to Azcarate, “The juror was vetted, sat for the entire jury, deliberated, and reached a verdict.”

The Jury’s Competent Decision Is Binding on This Court.

“This juror and all other jurors’ adherence to their oaths, the Court’s instructions, and its orders is the only evidence before this Court. The jury’s competent decision is binding on this Court.

The jury awarded Johnny Depp $10.35 million in damages, while Heard’s counterclaim resulted in compensatory damages of $2 million.

Heard’s attorneys have unsuccessfully contended that the inconsistent verdicts show the jury was incompetent.

Heard’s attorneys claimed that “the jury’s conflicting verdicts are incongruous and irreconcilable” in the motion that the judge rejected.
Heard still has choices, therefore she will probably challenge the decision once again on justifications that she did not disclose in her earlier file.

She is requesting a reduction in the amount of the judgement against her in the interim, claiming it is excessive.

But it appears like Amber Heard is also up against it on that front.

Depp filed a $50 million lawsuit, claiming that the 2018 Washington Post column in which Heard identified herself as a victim of domestic abuse caused big studio contracts to dry up and that he missed out on several years’ worth of employment.

Heard’s complaint, according to his attorneys, forced the cancellation of the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
Depp would have received $22.5 million for just that one project.

Since the jury decided in Depp’s favour, they were likely persuaded that his attorneys’ defence about the value of the lost revenue was strong.

Heard owes her ex-husband $8.35 million, so it’s unlikely that she will pay it off very soon.
