Alex De Minaur Career

Tennis star De Minaur represents Australia on the international stage. In July 2015, he made his professional debut by making it all the way to the quarterfinals of the Spain F22 championship. He was given a wildcard to the 2016 Australian Open qualifying round, but he was eliminated in the first round. On the ITF Circuit in Spain, De Minaur made two finals and finished the year with a 6-4, 6-4 record. After qualifying, he went on to compete in his maiden ATP Challenger Tour Finals in Eckental, Germany.

After being granted a wild card for the 2017 Australian Open, De Minaur made his Grand Slam debut. Before meeting Gerald Melzer, he had to save a match point against him in the first round, which he did. In the second round, he was beaten by Sam Querrey. To make his French Open debut earlier this year, De Minaur was given a wildcard entry.

In the first round, he was beaten by Robin Haase in straight sets. First-round defeats to Nottingham and Ilkley Challengers and Wimbledon qualifying second-round exit were the norm for de Minaur in June. In 2017, De Minaur received a wildcard to the US Open, where he lost to Dominic Thiem in the first round. Wildcard main draw entrant De Minaur won the 2018 Australian Open play-off in December.

De Minaur, who was seeded 19th, fell in the first round of the 2018 Australian Open to Tomas Berdych. First-round defeat against British 16th seed Kyle Edmund cost him his wildcard at this year’s French Open. De Minaur reached the quarterfinals of the US Open for the first time since August when he lost to Jan-Lenard Struff in the opening round of the Cincinnati Masters. As a doubles team with Cameron Nori, he reached the quarterfinals of the 2021 Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, where he lost to Jurij Rodionov, and the semi-finals in singles (lost to Matteo Berrettini). De Minaur earned his first grass-court victory at the 2021 Eastbourne International, defeating Lorenzo Sonego in the final, in the week before Wimbledon. He reached a new career-high in the singles rankings of No. 15 as a result of this run.
